The 1930 World Cup

The first FIFA World Cup was held in Uruguay in 1930, marking the centenary of Uruguayan independence. Only 13 teams took part, seven of them from South America. The Estadio Centenario in Montevideo was built for the tournament, and there hosts Uruguay beat Argentina 4–2 in the final. Exactly 100 years later, the 2030 World Cup returns to this stadium with a centenary match.

100 years after the first World Cup, the tournament returns to Montevideo in 2030 with a centenary match: All about the 2030 World Cup.
