Euro 1960

The first European Championship was still called the European Nations’ Cup. Only four teams contested the finals in France; Spain had refused to travel to the Soviet Union for their quarter-final. At the Parc des Princes in Paris, the Soviet Union with goalkeeper Lev Yashin beat Yugoslavia 2–1 after extra time in the final, Viktor Ponedelnik heading the winner.
