Led by Franz Beckenbauer, Günter Netzer and Gerd Müller, West Germany played football in Belgium in 1972 that is still regarded as some of the finest ever produced by a German side. They beat the Soviet Union 3–0 in the final in Brussels, with Müller scoring twice. It was Germany’s first European title – the World Cup followed two years later.
