Poland and Ukraine hosted Euro 2012. Spain became the first team to defend the European title, having won the 2010 World Cup in between. Italy were crushed 4–0 in the final in Kyiv – the biggest win in a European Championship final. Six players scored three goals each; UEFA gave the Golden Boot to Fernando Torres for his additional assist.
